Safety first...phone calls second

More than 260 million people subscribed to wireless communication devices, like the cell phone, In the United States. Practically considered a necessity these days, cell phone do help us stay connected to the world around us. But for those who talk on their phone while driving, connections are often being made with their bumpers.

Motorists who use cell phones while driving are four times as likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves, according to a study conducted by insurance institute for Highway Safety. Think switching to a hands-free device would solve the problem ? The same study found that injury crash risk didn't vary with type of phone

You may not consider talking on the phone a dangerous distraction behind the wheel, but consider how much of your attention is required simply by dialing. Once on the phone, people can become so absorbed in their conversations that their ability to focus on driving is severely impaired. Phone tasks typically decrease driver reaction times and increase lane deviations and steering wheel movements.

Young drivers  are especially at risk. Although many states have laws banning drivers under 18 from using either hand-held or hands free phones while driving, it's still up to parents to encourage safe and responsible driving habits. And  the easiest way to do that is by setting the example  . It may be hard at first with today's  hectic lifestyles, but try to  keep the multi-tasking  to a minimum when you are out on the road .
